The Ridge

Nestled in my home parish of St. Peter. “The Ridge” designed by architect and interior designer, Mr. Peter Inston (Ritz Carlton, The Savoy Hotel London, and the Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire) is simply amazing.

I was lucky enough to join Mandy Mahon (head of sales at Alleyne Real Estate) on a recent viewing of the property.

The Ridge took nearly five years to complete. From imported Italian marble to the fountain and courtyard statues, no detail was overlooked. In fact, an international artist was flown in from the UK just to paint the dome that welcomes guests as they enter the main house.

Set on 2.68 acres, The Ridge has 11 bedrooms, including five in the main house, four in the "chattel house," and two in a cottage. The house offers great outdoor spaces designed for any occasion. Among its impressive amenities are a temperature-controlled wine room, a state-of-the-art cinema, a spa, a salon, a gym, and a tennis court, all spread over 19,000 square feet of living space!

Art aficionados will appreciate the rare furniture pieces by designers Carlo Bugatti and Viscount Linley, along with sketches from Oliver Messel, known for his influence on many of Barbados' most luxurious homes. The Ridge is an amazing property and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to view it. While the luxury villa market often highlights beachfront properties, The Ridge serves as a reminder that country living can be equally charming. Of course I am a bit biased as I am from the “countryside” of our island.
