Old Soul, New Heart- The Pierhead Project

The Pierhead Project
Old Soul, New Heart. This is the ethos of the recently launched Pierhead Project which is set to transform our very own capital city of Bridgetown, here in Barbados. The Pierhead will be the first mixed-use district in our capital city, offering retail spaces, green areas, accommodation and amenities for local engagement. It will be a driving force behind the revitalisation of Bridgetown, already a World Heritage site.
The launch of this incredible project took place on the 24th July 2025 and I have no doubt this date will be etched in history as the turning point for Bridgetown. The launch event was an evening of history, culture and reflection on the old and the new. Yet it was also a launch of hope and confidence in our special island of Barbados and its capital. Confidence that we are embarking on a journey that will see Barbados propelled forward in so many brilliant ways.
Spearheaded by Mr. Neville Isdelle, owner and sole investor, it is a vision many years in the making. As our beloved Prime Minister The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley aptly put it, Mr. Isdell is a Bajan by choice, choosing to have his home here for the last 25 years and now choosing to be a part of an incredible development that will revitalize our historical Bridgetown to a new glory, while paying tribute to the rich history of old.
During her feature address at the launch event for the project, our Prime Minister also very eloquently pointed out that we are on the cusp of ushering in the fifth century of Bridgetown. Founded in 1628, Bridgetown will be 500 years old in just 3 years time. It’s a staggering thought that our very own Bridgetown on this small, beautiful island, has seen almost 500 years of life, change and re-invention. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the city, and indeed to propel it and the country forward, than with a project like the Pierhead which will offer so much to so many, visitors and locals alike.
Certainly the Pierhead will write its name on history’s pages and generations to come will look back in wonder at what will surely be considered a pivotal point in Bridgetown’s rich history. As a proud Barbadian, with my own memories of the Pierhead including the famed Waterfront Cafe, I feel privileged to witness this transformation and I cannot wait to see this old soul revived with new heart.
